What is the Sydney St Patrick’s Day Bachelor of the Year?

The Sydney St Patrick’s Day Bachelor of the Year was created as a fundraising event for the 2004 Sydney St Patrick’s Day Parade & Family Day. The intention was to offer something different to the usual expensive dinner dances and to engage a target group who did not normally contribute in any way to the Sydney St Patrick’s Day Parade & Family Day. Due to its enormous success it has become an annual event and is now in its 5th year.

The Sydney St Patrick’s Day Bachelor of the Year is a gala evening showcasing the best of Irish and Irish Australian male talent! Twelve ‘bachelors’ are interviewed on stage and delight and excite their audience with their charm and talents.

The Sydney St Patrick’s Day Bachelor of the Year is one of the most popular events in the Irish Australian Calender and in 2008 the event was held in one of Sydney’s most prestigious venues, the Crystal Palace Ballroom at Luna Park.

What Happens on the Night?

This year the event was set against the backdrop of the magnificent Sydney Harbour, the theme for the Bachelor was elegance and glamour. Guests were treated to drinks and cocktail food and some of the best entertainment on offer. Each bachelor was interviewed and performed a party piece to the audience. Micky Quail was selected by a panel of celebrity judges as the 2008 Sydney St Patrick’s Day Bachelor of the Year.

How Do I Become a Bachelor?

If you do not have a sponsor you may still apply and the Committee may be able to match you up with one.

How Do I Become a Sponsor?

If you would like to sponsor a bachelor in the 2009 Sydney St Patrick’s Day Bachelor of the Year and have someone in mind, please download the application form. If you do not have a bachelor, the Committee can match you up. Sponsors are acknowledged on the Bachelor Calendar and on our website and any promotional information regarding the event as well as on the night. There are many opportunities for sponsorship of the Bachelor. We are now accepting expressions of interest in our 2009 event. Shane O’Brien	New Century Bricklaying	Shane is a 25 year-old Cork boy and self confessed sports fanatic; he loves everything from running to rugby. Philip McLoughlin	PJ O'Brien's	Engineer Philip has been in Australia three months and is desperately missing his Saturday night Abrakebabra Kebab! Philip is a Dubliner who came to Australia to travel with a view to staying on. Philip is currently working behind the bar at his sponsor PJ O’Brien’s Sydney bar.
Raymond Rooney	Millennium Carpentry	Our Mayo Bachelor moved to Australia as he felt like a change, and the good weather is an added bonus for Raymond. This upfront 22 year-old bachelor is an Excavator Driver and is not afraid to say that he is not in the least bit romantic, however, this could all change when he meets the right woman! Rhys Ashpole	Harrigans Irish Pub	Rhys who is from the NSW costal town of Coffs Harbour is of Irish heritage with strong links to Belfast, Avoca and Charlestown.
