A note from John Hennessy, President of the 2008 Sydney St Patrick’s Day Parade & Family Day

The 2008 Sydney St Patrick’s Day Parade & Family Day was a wonderful success thanks to the many people who contributed and participated in planning for the event.

Record crowds lined the streets of Sydney in the beautiful sunshine to watch the Parade, lead by our nominated St Patrick John Ingrham.

The festivities continued in Hyde Park at the Family Day, the crowds enjoyed live music, dancing and plenty of activities which thrilled younger members of the crowd with story telling, bouncy castles and much more.  The citizenship ceremony took place in Hyde Park in the early afternoon where 38 very proud people became Australian citizens and then enjoyed a live performance by Australian Idol winner Damien Leith.   In all over 75,000 people enjoyed helping us celebrate St Patrick’s Day in Sydney.

Congratulations to Donegal who won the ‘Best Float’ competition, Penrith Gaels who won First Runner Up and Wexford who won Second Runner Up, you all put in a wonderful effort and your hard work certainly paid off.  Also congratulations to United Irish Ex-Services Association of Australia who won Best Marching Band.

Thank you for your support and donations throughout the year.  If you enjoyed helping us celebrate in 2008 perhaps would like to be involved in 2009? You can call me on 0425 061 864 if you would like more information on becoming involved with the organising committee.

It is your support and generosity that makes this event happen every year.  To continue this tradition and help us make the 30th annual Sydney St Patrick’s Day Parade & Family Day in 2009 another event to be proud of please donate what you can.
